Asceticism, in view of its important position in the world of mysticism, has always been a subject of discussion and critical study. Asceticism is a lifestyle characterized by abstinence from sensual pleasures, often for the purpose of pursuing spiritual goals. The Arabic term for "asceticism" is zuhd. The Islamic prophet Muhammad and his followers practiced asceticism. The present book consists of 40 lectures out of a series of lectures based on the book Manazil-al-Saireen of Khwaja 'Abdullah Ansari. The lectures include explanations and detailed description about mortification and asceticism. Sometimes there were ambiguities also. These lectures were be compiled and prepared for publication and ultimately got published as an independent work with the title ''Asceticism in the Mystic Tradition''. This humble attempt helps in explaining important aspects of asceticism and also in removing the existing ambiguities.
